My wife drives and esteem gl wagon 1.8 automatic console shifter when she puts on brake pedal to release shifter to put car in gear she hears a thumping sound in console need a diagram and what part may be wrong in console thanks george

Check engine and trans mounts first. Ther eis a cable that goes between console and trans so it may be something under the car hitting the floor and sounding like it's coming from console.
