i have a 2000saturn sl 4 cyl it will idle up an down in or out of park it dyies but will start back up some times you have to hold the pedal about half to get it to start

no CEL? usually loopy idle means too lean. like vacuum leak

Just to add to this one those single cam saturn S models 2000-2002 for vacuum leaks around the number 1 intake port.Which is right by the power steering pump they wrinkled the intake gasket when they put the intake the intakes on at the factory.Spray some carb around the intake ports if the idle goes up down stumbles or dies the intake gasket is leaking.Its a very common issue on those i have replaced a ton of those gaskets for that issue.
