2000 Saturn Sedan Security Light

I was having problems with the electronics in my car a few years ago. My dad said that he took the electronic stuff out. I'm not good with cars so I'm not exactlly sure what he ment by that. I know that I can't use the pad on the key chain to lock the car or open the trunk. My boyfriends been using my car to get back and forth to work and he used the pad on the key chain to lock it. It didn't work but ever since then I've had problems with it. I went to the store and while I was driving down the road the car jerked, everything shut off, then came back on again and worked fine till I got home. Yesterday on my way home the security light started flashing and the car started dinging and the radio shut of for a couple seconds and came back on. This happened about 3-5 times and then starting running fine. This happens every time I drive it now. It only happens about 1-3 times in a 1 hour time span. The car never totally shuts off except for that one time. I was wondering if I was to reset it like you would for the check engine light if it would help, or if there was something else I could do on my own to fix it. My boyfriend works at a mechanic shop and maybe you could tell me something he could do to fix it. Like I said before I don't have a good knowledge of cars and if it's something very, very minor I could do it. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.
