rover 25 2000 1.4 engine keeps cutting out while driving

while driving along the road after a bend or roundabout my car engine seems to cut out. i have checked all oil levels water etc etc but i notice that i seems to happen more often when there is less than half a tank of petrol any sort of info to guide me in the right direction would be greatfully appreciated as its becoming more and more of a pain!
