Plasticky smell coming from vinyl interior

I've had the car for 10 years, and don't have a problem with it. My wife claims that she gets nauseous from the plasticky smell coming from the vinyl dash. She says it's 'off-putting chemicals.' It doesn't smell like a gas leak, but in her words 'cheap plastic.' Any ideas?
