My car had a misfire at #5 ..engine light came on..was running rough.. after checking all the plug wires round fine but engine light still on

Your coil might be going out on the cylinder. Keep an eye on it. To get rid of the check engine light, remove your negative battery cable for about 2 min and that should do the trick.
