Car knocks the more it you give it has the faster it knocks. This seems to be a rod, but I bought a knock sensor to rule it out. This is a friend's car and he said after hearing the noise he checked the oil and it was bone dry. When I arrived the oil was still low it needed two more quarts. I noticed metal flakes in the oil along with other dirt. What do you think. Again I believe it's the rod, which is common on the 2.4 quads.

If you see metal shavings in the oil, it is most likely a rod, especially if it was run low on oil. I wouldn't keep running it as you are just causing more damage with the metal shavings

Noises problem
1999 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

hello, I have a 99 grand am se, 2.4. Im a girl, dont know anything about my engine lol but I was driving it on the highway, I kno I was way over an oil change, and all of a sudden my car did not want to accl. At all and there was a extremely loud knocking noise. But it would still drive home as long as I accl. Very very slowly and did go over like 30 mph or it would die out on me. The noise starts as soon as I start the car, and if I push on the gas and rev it up while its in park, the knock seems to go faster, can anyone tell me what this is? Ive had ppl say a rod, lifter, timing chain? Im a single mother and cant afford to take it to the shop, and I cant pay to fix it if I dont know whats wrong with it. Any ideas? Please help me!

Honestly, it sounds like a rod or main bearing in the engine. Let me know if you have other questions.
