I have a 2000 pontiac bonneville with ignition system problems. Sometimes we have to turn the key to start several times before the engine will respond and crank. Also there is a current drain that drains the battery over the course of several days. A mechanic traced the current drain to the ignition switch fuse. The drain stopped when he pulled it out. He thinks it needs a new ignition switch.
I am trying to replace the switch, but am having difficulties. The pass key chip doesn't want to slide all the way out to allow me to remove the switch. It comes most of the way out and then stops. I am afraid to pull on it too hard for fear of breaking it. Is there some clip or something that is holding it in, or some special procedure to remove it? Thanks for your consideration.
