what are clearance should be maintain between camshaft and the camshaft body?

The camshaft was broken. Our machanic said that the clearance between the camshaft and the body is too high ( 3 thou). So what should i do

just put new cam bearings in

but i hope he knows that cam bearing are different sizes as well and he shouldn't just measeure one bearing to the cam.
