How do you get around the boot/cover around rack and pinion and steering shaft, when replacing the rack and pinion? I need to get to the bolt on the clip that ties the rack and pinion and steering shaft together, but having problems with the boot/cover around it. It's in the way, need a way around or some way to take off. Thanx

Loosen the steering column and move it back a little which will give you room to get the pinch bolt out. Here are diagrams of how the job is done.

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers

No. I don't think it's called a boot, but it's some kind of cover that around the steering shaft and the little shaft on the rack and pinion. I tried pushing up on it, but not enough to clear the bolt and clip.

If its the steering rack to the steering wheel shaft. You use a long pry bar to push up the rack on the steering shaft so u can put the bolt in. You will have to work around that plastic cover. Don't rotate the steering wheel more than 1/2 turn or you will mess up the clock spring.
