Shifter stuck in park?

I can't move the shifter at all. Engine turns over. Brake lights work so I don't think it's the brake switch. I can hear the solenoid click when I press the brake. I tried the manual override underneath the leather shifter boot, and it would not release the shifter either. I have run into this issue a couple of times in the past and pressing the tab always releases the shifter. I looked under the car and it didn't look like the cable was disconnected, so I'm at a loss on what to look at next. Everything was working fine yesterday.

Even though you can hear the clicking of the shift lock linkage can break without releasing the shifter this will affect the override as well. Here are the instructions on how to replace the unit in the images below. Check out the images (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
