winshield wipers on 2000 Nissan Frontier

we have a 2000 Nissan Frontier. the windshield wipers stopped moving. there is a very slight movement as if if is trying to move but is something is slipping. I can see the drive assembly becasue it's behind the firewall. can you tell me the proper way to access the drive assebly and give me any ideas as to the problem?

Look at the nuts that hold the wiper arms, make sure they are tight.

Also check wiper motor.

my nuts are tight. moving one wiper manually moves the other wiper. it has to be what's driving me nuts.

Either motor, or wiper transmission.
