I was driving to a state park 40 min out of town. I was traveling about 55-65 mph. My foot was still on the gas pedal when the car began to slow and the steering locked up. Pressing on the gas pedal a little harder produced no results. The radio/ electrical components were still working when I pulled off the road but the car in general wasn't. I turned off the car and was able to get the car to turn over but you could tell something was wrong. After that it wasn't able to turn over again. We changed the fuel filter but it did not help. what's wrong with my car??

did the check engine light come on???

i would start with checking fuel pressure. then i would have the cat converter checked for back pressure.
