Whats wrong with my 2000 mitsubishi montero sports

I changed the val cover gaset and intake val and replaced spark plugs and alternator because oil was leaking from the val cover gastet and getting into the alternator causing it to short out. While doing this I also replaced the timing belt. After doing all this the car will idol but with a lopeing sound very rough with very raw gas fumes, If I press the acelarator it only spits backfire and and no acelration you cannot drive it cause it just dies you can turn the car off and restart and it idols perfect and you can acelarate it for about halg a minute then on its own just just starts lopeing again. it did not do this til I changed everything. What could be the problem. Thanks in advance for anyway you could help me on this.

Is the Malfunction Indicator Light showing?
Was the timing belt installed correctly?

The check engine light after a goodwhile of idoling does come on as far as i know I think the timing belt is on correct

The MIL indicating means an error has been detected and you bneed a scan to find out which component is causing the problem.

Most parts stores provides free scanning services. Let me know the EXACT trouble code.

I tryed to use the Actron OBD 2 code reader myself. With switch off plug in the code reader turned swith to on, the check engine light went off and I attemped to scan it anyway came up with 0 codes, then I tryed to read the MIL Status, so I started the engine and scaned came up with 0 codes put the car in drive and at some point I came up with a p0170 which is fuel Trim malfunction bank 1 I dont understand this.

Let me ask you this, if the computer got shorted out, would the check engine light come on and would it even crank

Computer does not control cranking.

With the ACTRON code reader, does it show no codes or error?

I don't believe the computer is shorted if you can start, more likely to be a loose connection somewhere
