I have a 2000 sport, when I step on the brake the interior lights go on and the dash lights dim.
What could be the problem?

Most likely a fault with ground circuit connections. Check the rear taillight grounding locations for either side. Clean and retighten to test.
Check the taillight bulb sockets for corrosion and bulb looseness.
