This is an "interference" engine so there are going to be bent valves on both heads, not just the rear one. A compression test SHOULD prove that, but the best test is a cylinder leakage test. Many auto parts stores that rent or borrow tools will have this tester, but you need compressed air to run it.
Leaking valves would explain the rough running, but if the engine is idling too slowly and tends to stall unless you hold the accelerator pedal down 1/4", that is simply a matter of the Engine Computer relearning "minimum throttle" after the battery was disconnected. You also may find the engine is hard to start, and it won't give you the nice idle flare-up to 1500 rpm when you start it. To meet the conditions for the relearn to take place, drive at highway speed with the engine warmed up, then coast for at least seven seconds without touching the pedals.
