On my 2000 mercury villager, I removed the distributor cap and watched the rotor as someone else turned the key in the ignition and the engine is cranking but the rotor is sitting still, what could be the cause?

Timing Belt or chain is broken or the distributor drive gear is sheared off-remove the dizzy and check

The Timming Belt has failed Bummer is engine is interference so valve damage has occured

Alright thanks for the reply, Ill pull the distributor out and give it a look, would rather pay the price of a dizzy than to do the work of a timing belt.
