Flashing O/D light in 2000 Grand Marquis. What does it mean?

The OverDrive light began flashing one evening on the way back from dining out. Weather was normal for Sept in Alabama, the road was pretty level, the loads on the engine were those of normal stop and go traffic.

The flashing light indicates there is a trouble code stored in the computer regarding the transmission. You need to have the computer scanned to identify what code it is. From the code, you will know what is causing the problem. It will be an electrical component, sensor, solenoid...
