high idle on a cold start. What would that be? It also hesitate when it shifts when this happens. Only for a minute.

During cold start, the idle would be higher as the system is programmed to work thus. How high are we talking about?
Have you checked for trouble codes? Did you check the transmission fluid level and condition?
