I have a 2000 Mercedes Benz ML 320. My car wont switch into gear from park and also this ETS light comes on and off. Also when I put a screwdriver in the gear box something clicks and I can change my gear. What do you think is wrong with it?

Have it scanned for codes.
When you put the screwdriver into the gearbox, what do you do with it? Wiggle it around? Touch or push a particular piece?

Could be a problem with the shift lock control solenoid
