if the computer shows that the piston #6 needs to be checked... what does that mean?

Do you mean a cylinder #6 misfire? That means the Engine Computer detected a misfire with that cylinder. Common causes are spark plugs, spark plug wires, individual ignition coils (when used), and sometimes an injector problem.
