how do I remove driver side airbag cover on a 2000 mazda b3000

I am trying to replace the cruise control switchs on the steering wheel and I need to know the easiest way to do the installation. It is my understanding that I need to disarm the airbag and I really need help.

is the switch right on the wheel or on the column?
