I bought a used, 2000 Mazda 626 about 3 weeks ago. The shift wasn't perfect when I got it, but the car still drove fine. (When shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the car would almost 'pull' itself forward into second shift) Yesterday afternoon, I found that I couldn't shift into second gear easily at all. In fact, I had to rev up the rpm's to about 4,000 before it would shift into 2nd gear, and I have no clue if it will shift into 3rd. (the roads where I live don't allow you to drive fast enough to test this). Are there sensors in my car that would be faulty and causing this, or has the worst happened and I need to get a new transmission??

Do you have a check engine light?

Try replacing the fluid and tranny filter -don't work you might be looking at a used/new transmission
