My son just bought this Mazda 626 2000 the mechanic was working on the engine now the head gasket is blown should he repair for free?

Mechanic should have been aware of this he worked on the gasket before being sold.

Apparently the mechanic just worked on the gasket and a week later the head gasket blew. Should he have known it would.
