Mazda 626 engine light

I own 2000 mazda 626 lx. Today engine light came on and I felt some heat in the car while driving and also felt some mild smell of heat. Could you please suggest me what might be the problem?

Check all main fluid levels, oil, coolant and trans, get a scan done to read the set fault code(the light coming on) and report back the fault code for further assistance.
