While driving down the highway the engine started knocking loudly, white smoke billowed out the back and from the hood, and the car finally died. When I had the car towed the wrecker said there was oil spewing from under the engine. What are the possibilities and solutions?

First you have to wash it down and re fill oil, check coolant and see if it will run, i do feel that you may have blown an engine, look for any signs of damage to the sump or block, you may have thrown a con rod.
