When I start my car it runs and sounds great! It will over heat then return to normal temp! But then my engine will sound like it is running rough and it is making a whining noise! It will stop after a period of driving or if I restart my car sometimes! I know I need a flush and fill on my radiator. Do you think I need a new thermostat maybe?

I would do the thermostat, sounds as if it may be sticking, the noise may be the thermo fans kicking in as the temp rises and then the thermostat opens and temp stabilizes, i would replace the thermostat and do that flush as well, just make sure that you use the correct temp range thermostat.
