My car is being started by a straight wire coming from the engine. I just tap the battery and it cranks. How do I fix this so that when I turn the key over it will crank on its own?
Need to repair starter. I have to turn on ignition, then lift hood and tap the battery for the car to crank. I need to fix this asap.

You are taping the battery as in hitting the battery for it to start?Have you had the battery tested made sure the battery cables are clean and tight? Also had the alternator tested?

There's a wire coming from the engine. I have to turn the ignition switch on with the key, then get out, lift up the hood to tap the battery with this straight wire in order for the car to start. I want to know it that could be the starter, ignition switch, etc.
