Was just told I have "trans pan seep". What is the first step in diagnosing the extent of the issue?

I bought the car used @ 70,000 miles and have maintained my own records since. I have never had the transmission serviced.

it is time to change the oil and filter. the pan can be addressed at that time with a new gasket.
