Faulty spark plugs and/or cables, ignition coils are the most common cause of backfiring.

Check the valve clearances.

What r they and where r they, would the alternater make any of this happen

If the alternator is not charging correctly and when the battery is weak, it can occur.

The valve clearances can be checked with the valve cover removed.

Have a compression done first to check if any cylinder is below specs.
