what could be causing a winding sound coming from my car

A winding sound seems to be coming from my steering wheel area when I drive 20 miles or higher; the noise stops when I stop and starts again over 20 miles an hour. It almost sounds like something is in the vents

How shore are you its in the car and not out side the car. Wheel bearings can sound like that. But the noise is out side the car. If you can spin the wheels by hand with the front end jacked up and see if its coming from the front wheels.
