how do you troubleshoot whether it is the p.s. pump or the p.s. gear box

looking for info on how to diagnose whether the power steering pump is not working or if its the steering gear box. noticed the steering wheel shakes after car is started

Ideally you need to check the pump pressures are ok, this requires a specific pressure gauge.
