For a 2000 civic LX - we went in asking them to determine if it was safe to drive for a long trip the next day because it had been vibrating with something at the wheels. We informed them that the oil shop had mentioned there was a bad CV / axle type thing - and that we needed to know if it was in need of immediate repair or could wait since it wasn't really popping bad on turns (back in the day I pizza delivery drove a number of civic's to the grave and went through a couple axle replacements)?

Hello,

There are several components that can cause the front end to vibrate.
It cold be a bad ball joint or control arm, it can also be bad tires. And if the vehicle vibrated while braking it could be the brake rotors.

Typically for CV axles you will get noise while turning.
Inspect the suspension components for any damage or loose parts.
Check the CV boots for any leakage. If the boots leak it will have grease all over the suspension components.

Most suspension components can be changed using basic hand tools.

I have attached diagrams for your reference.

Please let me know of any questions.
Thank you.
