My 2000 honda accords shifter is very loose. It slides through the gears easily but it runs good when in gear except in reverse backing up an incline it's a bit slow. Is it the transmission, the shifter or somrthing else?

You say that when it is in reverse it is slow. With the shifter being loose I would check the shifter arms to make sure everthing it tight. With it being slow in reverse or any other gear and you have to give it more gas to make it go then I would check the level of the transmission fluid. Smell the end of the dipstick when you check it, if it has a burnt smell there may be internal problems. You might get away with having the fluid changed along with the filter
