I have replaced several starters.and have tried shims as well.Every time I start it it grinds on the starter teeth.Is that because my flywheel worped or cracked.I bought a new one.It has balance weights on it. I was wondering before I start tzken it apart. is that correct

Pull the starter out inspect the flex plate teeth have some one turn the engine over by hand whike you look at the teeth.

YOU CAN ALSO HOLD A PENCIL OR OTHER OBJECT (IN A SHOP ENVIRONMENT, A DIAL INDICATOR) TIGHT AGAINST THE STARTER HOLE AND THE TIP REALLY CLOSE TO THE FLYWHEEL

AS YOUR PAL ROTATES THE ENGINE WITH A WRENCH OR RATCHET, IF YOU SEE THE FLYWHEEL MOVE FURTHER OR CLOSER TO THE PENCIL YOU WILL KNOW IT'S WARPED.

LOOK FOR CRACKS TOO. SOMETIMES THESE PUPPIES BREAK IN AN ARC SHAPE CLOSE TO THE BOLT PATTERN AND ONLY FLEX/ GIVE WAY WHEN UNDER PRESSURE
