When I crank the truck in the mornings it has a tapping noise that I think are the lifters. After the oil pressure builds up the noise stops. Is there an oil additive that will help? Anything I can do short of a rebuild?

try a different oil filter like Purolator, wix, or napa. if not there isn't much you can do about it.
