oil gauge

My 2000 GMC Jimmy's service engine soon light came on yesterday afternoon. It was on again this morning when I went to church but not on the way home. The oil gauge needle has moved right of center, to the line below 80. I have never seen it go beyond 40, the upright position. What does the elevated oil gauge position mean?

Check engine light on

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis,finding out what's going on.

Oil pressure:
Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge,if normal replace the oil pressure switch. If abnormal could mean oil pump and engine bearing.
