Auto transmission will not shift out of second without high RPM's and other times shifts roughly thru all 4 gears and on other occasions works fine??

If the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Also, check the fluid level. If everything looks good, chances are you need to have the shift solenoids checked. One may be sticking and causing the problem.
