2000 Ford Ranger V6 4x4 Auto Shifts Hard First Second Initially Starting Out

v6 4x4 auto, shifts hard from first to second when initially starting out. after it wrms up its fine. changed oil and filter but no change. could this be a shifft solenoid? How do you check solenoids?

You could have a torque converter or solenoid problem or an issue with pump pressure. Start out by getiting the trouble codes pulled to rule out elctrical issues. Any Advance Auto or Auto Zone will do this for free.
