I have a 2000 ford mustang coupe v6 standard transmission.I notice sometimes the gear shifter will shake going down the road. When I let out of the gas it stops. Ive checked the transmission mounts and motor mounts. What could it be?

If it's a high frequency vibration, check for a tight u-joint. Look for signs of a reddish rust around the bearing caps, otherwise you'll have to unbolt it to check them. If it's a lower speed shaking, an engine misfire condition is more likely.

Don't overlook a drive line vibration from incorrect ride height, usually due to sagged rear springs. That will reduce the angle of the drive shaft to the transmission's output shaft and the pinion gear in the axle. There needs to be a little angle there. An alignment shop will have a small book that shows where to take the measurements and what they should be.

I kinda wondered if it was a problem with a u joint. Its definately not a engine misfire. When ever it shakes, it kinda feels like something is in a little bit of a bind. It does it in all gears. But it doesnt do it all the time. It does it mostly when first shift into the gear. When the gear starts winding out it'll stop most of the time.I was hopeing it was a problem with the u joint and not a transmission problem
