VW ag4 box on ford galaxy is taking long to shift gears and when it does it produce a heavy knocking sound

it uses a vw ag4 automatic transmission .the sound follows just after gear change.the second gear is coming a little after 12miles

Check the transmission fluid level and condition if okay-bring it in and have it further diagnosed
