I just purchased a 2000 ford focus and we changed the NSS (neutral safety sensor) and the transmission is still having trouble shifting, mostly when shifting down. When I apply pressure to the break it grabs really hard and makes a bad jerk. Also the car idles with high rpms

The range switch or NNS will not affect gear change, check oil condition and if dark and smelly (burnt smell) do a transmission service, if problem persists it will b e an internal problem with the transmission and it should be look at by a qualified tech first hand as a number of hands on tests will have to be done to confirm any diagnoses.
