Stereo says err when I switch it on, I thought it asks for a code. Don't know how to get I to ask for code.I have the code but can't get past the err bit

Have you tried to insert an incorrect code? If more than 5 try's are made the radio locks out, depending on make you may have to wait 24 hrs to re insert. Pull radio fuse for 1 Hr, it may have gone to lock down if the wrong code was tried more that 3 times, otherwise the radio may be faulty.
