The overdrive indicator light is blinking, what does this mean? The transmission is slipping badly, the fluid is red, not burned, but it is very bubbly and high on the dipstick when I try to check the fluid. There's been no recent service on the transmission at all.

Have the computer scanned. The blinking light indicates there is a trouble code stored in the computer. Here is a guide to help.

Please run down this guide and report back.

Shifts though all the gears before it hits 30 mph then the overdrive light flashs make a noise under dash when switch is turn to 4h or 4l but does not make the noise in 2wd or awd

We need the code for the trans.

The shifting may be a bad tps sensor on the throttle body as the pcm looks at that for shifting times

I replaced my 1997 for expedition (4.6) ( 4wheel drive) transmission with 2001 ford expedition (4.6) ( wheel drive) transissiom but the over drive light starts blinking. Do I need to change the sensors or both sensors are compactible. Why is the overdirve light blinking?

We always recommend staying with direct fit replacement parts because of things like this. If you didn't change the sensor from the old one to the new, I would try that.

Let me know if it helps.
