Hi, my 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 has been turning off (not stalling) when I'm coming up to stop signs/lights and will turn on just fine once I realize it died. I decided it was time for new spark plugs, now I'm getting about 50 miles per half tank (it's a 10gal), really rough idling and the service engine light is on. What could be wrong? I don't want to waste money with false leads.

Your starting point here-have the computer scanned for code/s-could be the wrong type plugs/incorrect gapping

They're the standard for the escort and they come pre-gapped. It says there's a misfire from #4. The guy helping me said I might need a new coil because the one I have now might have grown accustomed to the old plugs.
