Stuck in park

2000 Econoline 150 Got home yesterday with all being normal. Got up this morning, started it and could not get it out of park. Took the plastics off, but really don't know what i'm looking at. I can kind of force it somewhere inbetween park and reverse, then gradually try to turn the ignition while at the same time pushing it back up towards park until it allows the ignition to turn over. Then all seems fine thru all the gears. It seems now that it will go fine as long as when I put it in park I don't put it all the way to the left. Any ideas?

Are your brake lights working if so -have the shift interlock control system checked-shiftlock solenoid
