My transmission stopped working but I have no check engine light

Without any previous trouble, the transmission on my 2000 ford contour stopped working. While driving past 30 mph the engine would rev when I applied gas, but speed did not increase. Finally after trying to accelerate from stop, car would not move at all

sounds like an internal failre. beyond checking the fluid, it may require removing the trans and most likely overhauling it.
