the oil pressure goes to zero and there is a ticking in my engine on a 2000 dodge durango v8

With low oil pressure the lifters are usually the first item to get noisy, start with getting an oil pressure test with a mechanical gauge, this will give you the actual reading, dash electrical gauges are very inaccurate, report the readings here.
