I have a 2000 Dodge Durango 4.7L V8. Yesterday I noticed that my oil pressure fluctuates. At idle it is around 35psi and when I'm driving it sits around 70-80 psi. I also noticed that under my oil filler cap there is a milky substance. I didn't know what to do so I took it to get the oil changed and the mechanics told me that it looks likes there is a slight oil leak. There reasoning was that the skid plate was covered in oil but that skid plate has been covered in oil since I got the car. Can someone tell me what is wrong and if I should be worried?

I'll double check, but, my info says oil pressure 4psi at idle. 25--80 psi @ 3000 rpms. Also, if you have a lot of crankcase pressure, that can force oil out just about anywhere.

Your oil pressure relief valve may have a problem? I usually use an analog gage in place of the oil sending unit, check pressure there.

Yes, agree with jdl, also if this vehicle is equipped with a pcv valve, change that also
