I have a 2000 Dodge Durango & lately when I attempt to start it it will not turn over. The dash lights are on & door ajar sounds but it takes several attempts for it to start. Could it be the ignition needs replaced? Or a starter problem?

Is it cranking over and will not start or just won't crank over at all/nothing at cranking position?

If you hear a single loud clunk from the starter each time you turn the ignition switch to "crank", suspect worn solenoid contacts in the starter. They can be replaced for 20 bucks but most people just replace the entire starter. This affects the little silver Nippendenso starters and always starts out being intermittent.
